The Brickell Medical Sciences Library has an institutional licensing agreement with Clarivate for EndNote Desktop.
Download EndNote Desktop installer from EVMS myPortal page.
NOTE: All users should reboot after install of EndNote. When Mac users run EndNote for the first time it can appear as if EndNote has not started. The EndNote user interface, per design, is very clean. To begin a library click on the pulldown menu “File” > “New” > create a new library file and save it on your local drive.
Connect Endnote Desktop with Endnote online.
EndNote desktop works best when connected and synced with EndNote online.
- If you do not already have a free personal account for EndNote visit EndNote online.

- Connect your EndNote online account to EndNote Desktop by opening desktop app. If this is the first time starting the desktop app it may ask to create a library.
- Use the "Edit" pulldown menu and choose "Preferences." From the EndNote Preferences pop-up choose "Sync." In the "EndNote Account Credentials" area enter your credentials from step 1. Put a checkmark in "Sync Automatically." OK
- Once this is setup EndNote will sync automatically with online account. You can force Endnote to sync anytime by using the "Library" pulldown menu.and "Sync."
Connect EndNote Desktop to EVMS licensed resources.
EndNote allows users to download and attach articles to a citation list. Note that this will require local hard drive storage for downloaded PDFs and this process is imperfect and some articles may have to be attached manually.
- Use the "Edit" pulldown menu and choose "Preferences." Form the EndNote Preferences pop-up choose "Find Full Text."
- Put check boxes in all the boxes at the top.

- Right Click Citation group you would like to share. "Share Group." OR highlight the group use the File pulldown menu "Share"
- Add email address(es)
- Change "Permission" pulldown menu to match sharing level.
- Your colleague will get an email from EndNote. They can then go to File pulldown menu and "Open Shared Library."

EndNote and Microsoft Officeintegration
Troubleshooting if Endnote and Microsoft Word are not talking.
- After Installing EndNote reboot your computer if you haven't done so already.
- If MS Word is missing the EndNote tab in the Word Ribbon. Open a Word document to disable and reenable add-ins.
- Sometimes Word cannot find where EndNote has been installed. Do this. Open MS Word, look in the Ribbon, clickEndNote Tab/Go To EndNote. MS Word should manually open Endnote and build a bridge between EndNote in Word. Some users have noted that manually opening EndNote before starting MS Word can also resolve this issue.
- Open MS Word, click EndNote Tab/Preferences/Application Tab. Make sure that Applicationis set to "EndNote," not "EndNote Online."
