Is the library open?

The Brickell Medical Sciences Library service desks have returned to pre-COVID hours, and the facility is open 24/7 on a limited basis under the following conditions:

Mask and social distancing requirements
Masks are required for students, staff, faculty and visitors inside all EVMS buildings regardless of vaccination status, in accordance with new CDC guidelines and EVMS protocols. The only exception is when a fully vaccinated individual is working alone in a private area.

Fully vaccinated individuals
Social distancing will not be required in study rooms, classrooms or meetings, but participants will be required to wear masks.

Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals
Those who are who are not fully vaccinated must maintain as much social distance as possible at all times, including when they are in classrooms. Learn more about EVMS' vaccination requirements.

Additional information
Housekeeping teams are cleaning and disinfecting Library spaces daily and nightly; with special attention to high touch areas such as tables, carrels, light switches, and doorknobs throughout the day.

Contact the service desk email addresses for assistance:

Can I check out materials?

Yes, you can check out materials during the Circulation Desk's staffed hours. If you have any questions or concerns after hours, please send an email to library@evms.edu

Can I still access the electronic resources?

Yes. All of the electronic resources (e.g., databases, eBooks and eJournals, and other electronic resources) can be accessed off-campus via login with EVMS Novell credentials. Electronic resources are available 24 hours a day. Anyone on the campus network can access the electronic resources.

Can I request materials through document delivery/interlibrary loan?

At this time, only digital formats can be delivered through interlibrary loan (ILL), such as articles and book chapters that can be scanned. Because of COVID-19, libraries, including Brickell Medical Sciences Library, aren’t sending physical resources to other libraries. Requests for articles and chapters from other institutions will be processed daily (note that delays from loaning institutions cannot be anticipated). Copyright laws apply.

An ILL account can be acquired by filling out a short electronic form.

Document Delivery questions can be emailed to: ILLiad@evms.edu

This email will be monitored from Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

I have items checked out. What do I do?
