Objectives
1. Define physiology of addiction versus misuse.
2. Recognize signs of addiction.
3. Identify appropriate screening tools to detect opioid use disorder.
4. Conduct a clinical interview to collect a substance use history in a structured and non-judgmental manner.
5. Incorporate brief therapy and/or motivational interviewing when appropriate.
6. Explain the diagnosis and rationale for treatment to patients with opioid use disorder.
7. Determine the severity of opioid use disorder and patient factors to guide treatment.
