Objectives
1. Determine medical, psychological, social, and functional indicators of opioid use disorder.
2. Describe fundamentals of opioid risk assessment-taking a social, medical and financial history.
3. Determine a patient's protective factors and use their strengths to engage in shared decision making regarding treatment.
4. Consult with other treatment resources and determine roles of an interdisciplinary addiction team.
5. Refer to formal and informal treatment programs in the local community according to the resources available to the patient and when appropriate.
6. Differentiate the various levels of treatment such as intensive outpatient therapy, medication assisted therapy, and others for opioid use disorder using evidence-based medicine.
7. Educate patients hesitant to enter treatment on importance of risk reduction strategies.
8. Manage patients in recovery including assessing patients for risk factors that contribute to relapse.
9. Differentiate between drug culture and recovery culture in treatment and the role of peers.
